PV Systems Training Opportunity for Hijjawi Students at 5Builders – Egypt
The Hijjawi Foundation Career Development Center at Career development Unit is pleased to announce a distinguished training opportunity in collaboration with 5Builders, Egypt, focusing on the design, implementation, and operation of Photovoltaic (PV) Systems and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
Target: Students from Electrical, Industrial and Mechanical Engineering at Hijjawi Faculty of Engineering Technology
Duration:
Full 4 months (asynchronous training)
Scope of Training:
1. Site Assessment and Design a. Feasibility Study • Solar resource analysis (irradiance, shading, tilt) • Load demand and grid integration needs • Soil, environmental, and topographical surveys b. System Design • Layout of photovoltaic (PV) modules • Inverter selection (central/string) • Sizing and configuration of BESS (kWh and kW ratings) • Electrical single-line diagrams (SLDs) • Grid connection design (voltage level, point of interconnection) ⸻ 🏗️ 2. Civil Works a. Site Preparation • Land clearing and grading • Fencing and access roads • Drainage and erosion control b. Foundation and Mounting • Pile driving or concrete foundations • Mounting structures (fixed-tilt or tracking systems) ⸻ ⚙️ 3. Electro-Mechanical Installation a. PV System Installation • Mounting of solar modules • DC cabling and combiner boxes • Installation of inverters (DC to AC conversion)
b. BESS Installation • Containerized or modular battery units (typically Li-ion) • PCS (Power Conversion System) • HVAC, fire suppression, BMS (Battery Management System) c. Electrical Works • AC cabling from inverters to transformer stations • Installation of transformers (LV to MV or HV) • Earthing and lightning protection systems ⸻ 🔌 4. Grid Connection a. Substation Construction • Step-up transformers • Switchgear (AIS or GIS) • Protection relays and metering b. SCADA & Communication Systems • Data acquisition for PV & BESS • Remote control and monitoring systems • Communication with grid operator (via RTU, PLC, etc.) c. Grid Interconnection • Connection to utility grid (MV or HV) • Synchronization and protection coordination • Grid compliance testing (voltage/frequency control, fault ride-through) ⸻ ✅ 5. Testing, Commissioning & Handover a. System Testing • String testing (IV curve) • Inverter functionality and performance • BESS charge/discharge cycles • Protection and grounding checks b. Commissioning • Energization of systems • Functional testing with SCADA and EMS • Coordination with grid operator (e.g. load flow studies) c. Handover • As-built documentation • Final inspection and approval • Transfer of ownership or start of operation & maintenance (O&M) ⸻ 🔁 6. Operation & Maintenance • Real-time monitoring and performance analysis • Preventive maintenance (module cleaning, inspections) • Corrective maintenance (inverter failures, battery degradation) • Warranty and performance guarantee tracking
