Hijjawi Team Shines at IEEEDuino Global Competition
A student team from the Hijjawi Faculty of Engineering Technology at Yarmouk University has achieved remarkable success at the IEEEDuino Global Competition for Region 8, which includes Europe, Asia, and Africa. Competing against more than 60 teams, the team qualified for the finals and secured second place — making Yarmouk University the only Jordanian institution represented among the top positions.
Team SKB — Mohammad Karasneh, Raneem Al-Badr, and Yazid Al-Sobh (Computer Engineering) — won second place with their project focused on protecting marine environments using technology. Their innovative solution involved a capsule designed to collect air and water data using sensors and store it in a central database to support AI modeling and environmental conservation.
Dr. Mohammad Alzubaidi, Dean of the Hijjawi Faculty, praised the students’ achievement and highlighted the faculty’s commitment to fostering innovation and preparing students for global engagement. Dr. Zaid Al-Bataineh, Vice Dean and Advisor to IEEE, noted that this accomplishment reflects the high caliber of Yarmouk University students and the faculty’s efforts to support pioneering projects.
The team’s success was further supported by funding from the Hijjawi Foundation, under the leadership of Mr. Ayman Hijjawi, which enabled them to develop and present their project at this prestigious international event.
Mr. Ayman Hijjawi, Head of the Hijjawi Foundation, congratulated the students on their impressive achievement. He underlined that the Foundation remains dedicated to supporting innovative ideas and enabling students to showcase their talents on global platforms.
