An Advanced Training Experience Supported by Hijjawi Foundation to Empower Hijjawi Faculty Students in Exploring the World of Brain Imaging and Neuroscience Research
The Hijjawi Foundation Career Development Center is proud to support and deliver one of its specialized training programs, which was offered during the first semester of the 2025/2026 academic year. The six-month program focused on brain imaging technologies and neuroscience research, aiming to develop students’ skills and enhance their experience in biomedical engineering and modern medical technologies.
The program was launched at Moscow University and focused on the use of Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS), a modern non-invasive brain imaging technique used to study brain activity by monitoring changes in blood oxygen levels in different brain regions while performing various tasks.
The program was attended by Nagham Sawalha and Jana Jaber from the Biomedical Engineering Department at Hijjawi Faculty for Engineering Technology, Yarmouk University. The specialized training aimed to strengthen their practical and research skills and introduce them to the applications of brain imaging technologies in scientific research and rehabilitation.
The program consisted of two main phases. The first phase focused on the theoretical aspects, where participants learned the fundamentals of fNIRS technology, how the device works, sensor placement methods, data collection and analysis, as well as its main applications in neuroscience, scientific research, and rehabilitation.
The second phase focused on intensive practical training, which was conducted at the Hijjawi Foundation Career Development Center at Hijjawi Faculty for Engineering Technology, Yarmouk University. During this phase, participants applied their knowledge using fNIRS technology in a specialized training environment. The practical activities included studying brain activity and neural responses during different tasks, as well as training on signal recording, data quality assessment, and preliminary data analysis.
The practical training at the Hijjawi Foundation Career Development Center provided participants with the opportunity to explore the use of brain imaging technologies in a real rehabilitation setting and understand their role in assessing brain functions and supporting rehabilitation processes. This experience helped bridge academic knowledge with practical applications and further enhanced their expertise in the field.
