About The Foundation

The late Hisham Hijjawi, left Palestine in the 1950’s and established himself in Kuwait like many other Palestinians at that time. He never believed in violence or armed struggle and was a strong believer in the power of education and economic prosperity. His vision was to promote vocational education and decided to support Vocational education in Palestine and Jordan. Vocational skills are essential for any economy to retain and develop technology and know-how.

In 1981 Hisham Hijjawi established the Scientific Foundation of Hisham Adeeb Hijjawi (SFOHAH) in Vaduz, Liechtenstein. SFOHAH is an independent, nonprofit, NGO whose objective is supporting technical and applied sciences education to enhance technology transfer and absorption, in order to develop a suitable industrial base for better human welfare and dialogue.

The Foundation provides grants for educational support and training. The sources of funds of the Hijjawi Foundation are strictly from the Hijjawi family members. Institutional projects established by the foundation can source non-political third-party funding. In executing institutional projects (Colleges and Universities) the Hijjawi Foundation adopts World Bank tendering standards.

The Foundation operates through its Amman office to follow up on projects and programs in Jordan and Palestine. A board of directors set the policy for the foundation’s grant making and operations. An advisory board selected from public figures advises on SFOHAH’s general strategies.

The Founder

Hisham A. Hijjawi served the Foundation from its inception in 1981 until his premature death in 1990. Born in Nablus, Palestine, in 1931, he studied at An-Najah College and worked in education for two years before traveling to Kuwait in 1953, where he found success in business through hard work. Despite his success, he remained committed to supporting those in need, believing that human resource development is achieved through advanced technical education to keep pace with technological changes. He endowed much of his wealth to the Foundation to provide continuous financial support for human resource development. Hisham A. Hijjawi passed away on April 5, 1990.

Notably, nine of these programs have received ABET accreditation, with efforts ongoing to secure accreditation for additional programs. Through the Faculty of Graduate Studies, the Foundation also supports 11 master’s degree programs in engineering.

Students at FEIT have numerous opportunities to engage in campus life, including participating in the honours program, extracurricular activities, faculty research, and internships with prestigious companies and institutions both in Palestine and abroad. The campus hosts chapters of several renowned student organisations, such as Engineers Without Borders (EwB), the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE).

It is exciting to be a student at FEIT as we continue to grow and elevate our programs to regional and international prominence. I encourage students to embrace and take full advantage of the rich learning environment at ANU.

I invite you to explore the opportunities available at FEIT through our website or by contacting our office of admissions. Feel free to reach out to any of our faculty members for specific questions or to discuss collaboration opportunities.
